It is so wonderful to finish a quilt. The time, thought, and stitches put into it really gives you a sense of accomplishment. I was working on my quilt called Limelight when a very esteemed guild member suggested that I entered it our West Houston Quilt Guild show. Her suggestion gave me the confidence that the quilt looked good enough for exhibition. Time moved on and I kept thinking about entering as I finished more of my own quilts. The deadline for the show entry rolled around and I decided to enter 3 quilts in the end. I am so pleased that I did.
In the show I won my first ribbon, oddly enough in the category My First Quilt show. Isn't that ironic? Limelight took 3rd place and hung next to a dear friend's quilt which took 2nd place. We had been on many retreats together so I had seen her work on hers. I was so happy for us both.
I was not able to personally attend the show itself, but had the most heart warming experience later when at my next quilt meeting a nice member came up and said she remembered my quilt and loved Earthy Logs which was in the modern category. She said she wanted to try and make her own version of it. That really touched me since I have been so inspired by people online, at guild show & tell, retreats, etc... It was finally nice to know I was able to return the favor to the universe. I hope that from my experience you get a little gumption and try your hand at entering your quilts in a show one day. You never now the outcome!
